Breast Milk Flavored Lollipops. Hmmm… a way to wean her?

Next month it’s no more boobies for Faith … maybe just a lollipop instead? :)   Interesting article I found from Los Angeles Times.

If you can’t seem to remember what your mother’s breast milk tasted like, the folks at Lollyphile are trying to help. The gourmet Texas-based lollipop company debuted a breast-milk-flavored lollipop Monday.

The website features a happy toddler sucking on the breast milk pop with an explanation for the less-than-traditional candy flavor: “We felt it was our responsibility to find out just what this flavor was that could turn a screaming, furious infant into a placid, contented one.”

The lollipops are a soft beige color, but there is no actual breast milk in the recipe.

“Can you imagine armies of pumping mothers?” Lollyphile founder Jason Darling said Tuesday in an interview with The Times.

“Managing that would be a logistical nightmare,” he joked.

Darling tried breast milk from four of his friends who were new mothers. He and his flavor specialists then got to work developing the flavor.

“One of my friends had a preemie — it was seven months — and she had higher levels of colostrum, which made it sweeter, blue and thicker,” Darling said. “It all kind of tastes sort of like almond milk, but sweeter.”

Despite the “milk” flavor, all of the Lollyphile lollipops are vegan, with candies made of differing quantities of sugar, corn syrup and other natural flavors. Darling said the breast milk lollipops are mostly sugar.

For $10, you can get four breast milk pops, a dozen for $24 and a case of 36 for $58.

“We just released them last night,” Darling said, “and we’ve already sold a few thousand dollars worth.”

Hubby’s Bday ♥

Yesterday was my husband’s 37th birthday.  I had to be creative, and find out a way to make it special with little to no money.  Fortunately, there was a local free event at a vineyard here in town.  He loves the vineyard.  It’s so beautiful.  So I made egg salad sandwiches, grabbed some snacks and drinks, and we picnicked at the vineyard.  Simple, sweet… and he enjoyed it :)

I made him a chocolate birthday cake, meatloaf, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, and garden-fresh broccoli we got from his parent’s garden.

I also made him a birthday card, and traced Faith’s hand while she was sleeping to make it extra special.  He liked it :)

Now, the weekend is over.  Here it is Monday morning.  Made my new cinnamon spice Dunkin Donuts coffee… so yummy!

Will she ever sleep through the night?

I am preparing to help Faith start sleeping through the night.  I believe there is no way to truly avoid the “cry it out method.”  It is inevitable there will be tears.  She will be weaned next month, so Faith has to stop expecting to be nursed back to sleep several times a night.  Before I start letting her alone in her crib throughout the night, I want to introduce to her some self soothing toys.

I’ve seen lots of “loveys” in the stores.  There are cute little blankets with soft animal heads attached to them.  They are like modern day security blankets.  They’re very cute.  Here’s a few pics of some of them …

So instead of buying one, I decided to crochet her one…

Now that it is made, it will smell like me a little.  I’ve heard that if you put a shirt of yours in the crib, your smell will comfort them throughout the night.   I have been nursing her with her new owl lovey today… hoping to associate nursing/cuddling with her new security blanket.   I sure hope her owl blankie will become a successful self-soother.  She is now asleep in her crib, and holding onto it! :)

There is one more thing I want to get her to help distract her from being alone in her crib.  It’s a Baby Einstein Sea Dreams Soother Aquarium.

I saw this soother toy in Target, and I think Faith will be mesmerized by it.  The lights make it look like moving water, and the oceans sounds and songs are very pretty.  It even has a remote control so I can turn it on and off without going into the room to disturb her.  Once I get this toy, I will start leaving her alone in her crib, and hope for the best!

As for tonight, she is getting aquainted with her owl friend :)  I knew she would like the owl because one of her favorite night-time lullaby videos has an owl in it … she loves this :)

Sweet dreams!
