20 Weeks! Halfway done!

This week has been lots of fun for us.  Since classes have ended for the semester, Faith and I baked Christmas cookies and we all went to French Lick to look at all of the Christmas decorations.

I plan on doing much more Christmas baking!  I love baking goodies during the holidays!  I’m glad I can enjoy some leisure time with my family during Christmas before my final semester starts :)

We are all still doing well.  However, last week Aaron AND Faith both got sick again!  Aaron took another dose of antibiotics and Faith was having bad chest congestion, wheezing, coughing and sneezing.  I gave her some allergy medication and Tylenol for her sore throat.  Aaron and Faith are feeling better now.  This cold lasted only a few days for them… the way a cold should be… just a few days long!  That last cold we all had lasted for over a month!  I pray I never get a cold like that again.

Baby girl is moving around like crazy!  Kicking me and doing flips.  Aaron and Faith still haven’t felt her yet, but I think it will only be a matter of days now and they’ll feel her movements :)

Next Monday will be the ultrasound to check the anatomy of the baby!  Can’t wait to see her little face! :)

What baby looks like at 20 weeks…

Baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She’s also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — about the size of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby’s legs are curled up against her torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of her head to her bottom — the “crown to rump” measurement. After 20 weeks, she’s measured from head to toe.) She’s swallowing more these days, which is good practice for her digestive system. She’s also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in her bowels, and you’ll see it in her first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery). Your baby is truly starting to experience the world around her, limited though it may be. Her brain has been working overtime to develop the nerve centers dedicated to her senses. As they come alive, she’s more responsive to your activity, sounds in the environment, and even the taste of the amniotic fluid.

19 Weeks

This has been a very busy and productive week. I am finished with the semester! Yay!  My FINAL semester starts January 11, and it ends in May.  Then I will be DONE with school and have my degree in Early Childhood Education!   The end of my last semester may be difficult for me because the baby is due in April, about a week before my class will end.  She may be born during finals.  A newborn and studying for finals will be a challenge, but I will handle it!  I am so close to being finished!

Faith and I are still feeling healthy :)  I’m so thankful for that.  Aaron is actually getting congested again, and has a cough.  It may be a new cold developing.  I hope if that’s the case, it will only last a few days!  We’ve had enough sickness for awhile.

I had my baby checkup and baby girl is doing fine!  She has a nice strong heartbeat!  As for the results on my own heartbeat, everything is fine.  The heart monitor I wore for 24 hours did show palpitations, but the results said, “unremarkable” which means the palpitations are nothing of significance and there’s no need to worry.  The cardiologist believes it’s due to dehydration and told me to drink lots of water and eat regularly.  Now that my nausea is almost gone, I can eat more regularly.  My palpitations have subsided.  I get only a couple a day now.  I also got the flu shot while I was there.  I really don’t want to deal with anymore sickness this winter.  A couple concerns I discussed with my doctor is that I’m having pain near my tailbone when I walk or move around.  It comes and goes, but when it’s acting up it’s very painful!  Also, my stomach feels very full all the time.  It’s like how I felt in the 3rd trimester once Faith was very big.  I’m feeling that way NOW and I’m only in the 2nd trimester.  Sometimes I feel like I can’t even take a deep breath because there’s no room for air! The doctor just said, “This stuff happens earlier and feels worse with a second pregnancy.”   My muscles aren’t in the same shape as they were before I was ever pregnant, so subsequent pregnancies are harder on the body.  Oh well :(   This will be my last pregnancy, so I will focus on my blessings and deal with the aches and pains.

My next baby checkup is December 21st and we will be having an ultrasound to check the anatomy of the baby!  I’m excited about that!  I think they will also do a 3D ultrasound!

Baby’s sensory development is exploding! Her brain is designating specialized areas for smell, taste, hearing, vision, and touch. Some research suggests that she may be able to hear your voice now, so don’t be shy about reading aloud, talking to her, or singing a happy tune if the mood strikes you. As for size, your baby weighs about 8 1/2 ounces and measures 6 inches, head to bottom — about the size of an heirloom tomato. Her arms and legs are in the right proportions to each other and the rest of her body now. Your baby’s kidneys continue to make urine and the hair on her scalp is sprouting. A waxy protective coating called the vernix caseosa is forming on her skin to prevent it from pickling in the amniotic fluid.

18 Weeks

We are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!  Aaron and Faith are feeling much better.  Hardly any coughing.  As for me, I am still coughing a tiny bit, and my rib still hurts but otherwise I am feeling pretty good!  The nausea is almost completely gone, too!  However, I can’t shake this constant fatigue.  I am still resting/napping as much as possible. I haven’t yet got the results back about the heart monitor I wore for 24 hours. I have a baby-checkup tomorrow so hopefully they will give me more information about what the heart monitor discovered about my palpations.

My last week of the semester is next week, and then I will be off school for a few weeks for Christmas break!  Yay!

Thanksgiving was great.  We went to Aaron’s parents for lots of yummy food, and then we went to my parent’s house for more yummy food.  My Aunt, Uncle and cousins came down for a surprise visit, too!  I was happy to see them.  I haven’t seen them in a couple years.

I also made some Thanksgiving food so Aaron, Faith and I could have leftovers for several days.  I made stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower in cheese sauce, deviled eggs, a large turkey breast, and of course, pumpkin pie.  I am FINALLY starting to gain back some of 15 pounds I lost in my first trimester.  Yay for Thanksgiving!

Here’s a few pics…

After Thanksgiving we put up our Christmas tree.  Faith was so excited, but not as excited as me.  Christmas is my FAVORITE time of the year!

Head to rump, your baby is about 5 1/2 inches long, and she weighs almost 7 ounces about the size of a (bell pepper). She’s busy flexing her arms and legs — movements that you’ll start noticing more and more in the weeks ahead. Her blood vessels are visible through her thin skin, and her ears are now in their final position, although they’re still standing out from her head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around her nerves, a process that will continue for a year after she’s born. Her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place.
